About

Mr Giancarlo Dell’Aversana
I work as a full-time Vitreoretinal and Cataract Consultant at the Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust since 2021, and I have more than 10 years experience in ophthalmology.
I perform a high volume of surgery every year, around 300 vitrectomies and 1000 cataract surgeries.
I am also involved in education and training. I supervise prospective cataract surgeons during their rotation for the Severn Deanery and vitreoretinal surgeons who apply for our fellowship.
During my time as a Senior Vitreoretinal Fellow at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust in London, I had the privilege of learning from world-leading authorities in cataract and retinal surgery.
In my practice, I specialise in Vitreoretinal and Cataract surgery, handling a wide range of cases, from routine to complex.
I also see patients with general and emergency ophthalmic conditions.
Considering my expertise as vitreoretinal consultant, my colleagues often ask me to manage patients with particularly challenging cataracts or to assist if cataract surgery has been complicated elsewhere.
In fact, as a vitreoretinal surgeon, I am well-equipped to manage any complications that may arise during cataract surgery.
I stay at the forefront of innovation, utilising the latest premium intraocular implants, including EDOF and multifocal IOLs.
Treatment I Can Help With
As a vitreoretinal expert, I am proficient in treating a wide range of eye conditions, including retinal detachment, macular holes, epiretinal membranes, macular degeneration, and diabetic retinopathy.
My holistic approach and reliance on scientific evidence in my clinical and surgical choices ensure that my patients receive the best possible care for their specific needs. I am committed to providing my patients with the best possible care and continually advancing my knowledge through education and training.
I am registered with the General Medical Council (GMC) as a specialist in ophthalmology.
